DANIER LEATHER JACKET DESIGN
This leather jacket was designed and submitted to DANIER for their Leather Jacket Competition, open to all third year Fashion Design students at Ryerson University. Students were required to submit a sketch, written interview, and detailed technical drawings,
which can be seen here.
The jacket is a modern take on a suit of armour, like the Roman gladiators would have worn during battles in the Colosseum.
I wanted to design a jacket that would empower women by drawing on these battle suits, but also play on their feminine
side by using ultra-soft lambskin and a slightly tailored silhouette.
The pleated details on the shoulders, as well as the front and back neck, add interest and texture to this design. The sides
of the jacket also feature leather paneling that adds a subtle twist, leading into side seam pockets. Centre front of the jacket features an exposed brass zipper that gives it an antique sort of look.
